Nicola Carr
Nicola Carr is Professor and Chair of Social Work and Social Policy at Trinity College Dublin. Prior to becoming an academic, Nicola trained and worked as a probation officer in London where she was seconded to work in a youth offending team. Nicola has researched and published widely on probation and community sanctions.

She has carried out a wide range of research on probation and community sanctions and measures, and is the author of several articles and books including the co-edited books: Reimagining Probation Practice. Re-forming Rehabilitation in an Age of Penal Excess and Parole Futures. Rationalities, Institutions and Practices.  She was previously co-chair of the European Society of Criminology’s Working Group on Community Sanctions and Measures, and has served as a scientific expert for the Council of Europe’s Council for Penological Cooperation (PC-CP), where she helped to draft the Guidelines regarding recruitment, selection, education, training and professional development of prison and probation staff, (published in 2019).  Nicola is an editorial board member of the Irish Probation Journal  Along with Gwen Robinson (University of Sheffield) and Ebony Ruhland (University of Cincinnati) Nicola edits Routledge’s international criminology series on Probation and Community Sanctions and Measures.
Nicola became a member of the CEP Board in October 2022.
