We live in a rapidly changing world were technology plays an important role. Within a second, we have access to all the information we need and more. Technology in probation is rapidly changing and expanding as well. Nowadays, things like electronic monitoring, applications and virtual reality are used by probation officers in their daily work. Something we could have never thought of ten years ago. What sort of technology will we use in ten years?
Besides technology that probation officers can use in their daily work, the access to technology also created a new sort of offender: cybercriminals. Offenders that use technology to commit crimes.
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be defined as “a set of sciences,theories and techniques whose purpose is to reproduce by a machine the cognitive abilities of a human being. Current developments aim, for instance, to be able to entrust a machine with complex tasks previously delegated to a human.” (defenition CoE, 2019). Cybercrime
In general, cybercrime is defined as either a crime involving computing against a digital target or a crime in which a computing system is used to commit criminal offenses. As a broad category of crime, cybercrime includes such disparate sorts of activities as illegal access of data, use of computer communications to commit fraud, or the ransoming of systems via digital means.
